OpenShare License (OSH) 1.0
Preamble
This Work is made available under the OpenShare License (OSH) 1.0. By exercising any rights granted herein, you agree to be bound by these terms. All OSH grants are revocable by default. If no Tags are specified, this Work is dedicated under OSH-ZERO (see §8).
1. Definitions
- Work: the creative content (text, image, audio, code, data, etc.) to which this license applies.
- Licensor: the copyright holder or rights-owner applying this license.
- Licensee: any person or entity exercising rights under this license.
- Tags: hyphenated flags (e.g. AT, NC, NAI) that impose or remove specific conditions.
2. Grant of Rights
Subject to these terms and any applied Tags, Licensor grants Licensee a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to:
- Use, reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the Work.
- Adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the Work.
- Commercially exploit the Work.
3. Conditions & Tags
If no Tags are present, the license defaults to OSH-ZERO (§8). Otherwise, the following Tags modify or restrict the Grant:

WCL | Weak Copyleft. Linking or embedding triggers SA. |
SCL | Strong Copyleft. All derivatives must be fully OSH-licensed. |
NCL | Network Copyleft. Public network use (e.g. SaaS) triggers SA. |
EXP:MM-DD-YYYY | Expires on the specified date (UTC). |
EDU | Educational Use Only. |
NAI | No AI or automated dataset training. |
NMU | No Military Use or defense applications. |
NHS | No Hate Speech. Forbids use in hateful or extremist contexts. |
NPR | No Pornography/Explicit Content. |
META | Must retain all original metadata (author, date, Tags). |
PAT | Patent grant included. Licensor grants a royalty-free, worldwide patent license. |
SR | Source Required. Must include all source or editable files. |
OF | Open Formats. Distributions must use open, documented formats. |
NDRM | No DRM. Distributions must not apply digital-rights management. |
NTR | No Trademark. Prohibits use of Licensor’s trademarks or branding. |
TRN | Translations must carry the same OSH Tags. |
ARCH | Archive Deposit. Distributor must deposit a copy in a public archive or repo. |
CPI | Public Interest Use only (e.g. non-profit or civic tech). |
GOV | Government Use only. |
G2B | Gov-to-Business Use only. |
SDK | Include SDK or integration examples. |
FMT:… | Format-Specific Restriction (e.g. FMT:PDF-ONLY prohibits source formats). |
IMD | Integrity. Must include cryptographic checksum of original Work. |
NDR | No DRM Removal. Forbids removing DRM applied upstream. |
NPA | No Personal Ads. Forbids use in targeted advertising or tracking. |
OCO | Open Contribution Only. Changes must be accepted via open issue/PR process. |
TRB | Transparency Report. Distributor must publish a usage report. |
FOSS | FOSS-Only Derivatives. Derivatives must be licensed under an OSI-approved FOSS license. |
4. Revocation
Licensor may revoke this license, in whole or in part, at any time and for any reason. After revocation, no new Licensee may rely on the Grant. Licensor may specify in a public notice whether pre-revocation uses remain valid.
5. Attribution (AT)
When AT is present, Licensee must, in a reasonable manner:
- Credit the Licensor by name or pseudonym.
- Identify the Work’s title, if any.
- State “OpenShare License (OSH) 1.0” and list applied Tags.
- Indicate any modifications made.
Hyperlinks are optional.
6. No Additional Restrictions
Licensee may not apply legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from exercising the rights granted by this license.
7. Warranty & Liability Disclaimer
The Work is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Licensor disclaims all liability for any claims or damages arising from its use.
8. OSH-ZERO (Public Domain Dedication)
If no Tags appear, the Work is dedicated to the public domain under OSH-ZERO:
- No attribution, conditions, or revocation.
- Freely use, modify, distribute, and sublicense for any purpose.
9. Governing Law (Optional)
Licensor may specify an applicable jurisdiction. Absent specification, no particular governing law is assumed.
10. Marking Your Work
Include a short notice wherever the Work is displayed. Examples:
- This image is licensed under OSH AT-NC-NAI-NHS.
- Source code released under OSH SA-WCL-PAT.
- Dataset dedicated under OSH-ZERO.
